PLGR is the first handheld GPS device, initially fielded in 1993, just 7 years after the first generation (18 lb) “portable” GPS devices. PLGR provides 5 channel secure (Y code) navigation capability in a 2.8 lb package. It has been integrated into dozens of Army systems for precise targeting, situational awareness, and timing. PLGR is now obsolete and is being replaced by DAGR and future systems.
